How to Prep for Your
Couples Session
What to expect
Our session will be very laid back and I provide lots of direction so that moments are candid but you always have something to do! Most sessions take around 60-90 minutes. Sessions may be a little shorter or longer depending on our location choice. I recommend taking some time on the day of to do something that is stress free and trying your best not to rush!
What to wear
Sometimes the best outfit to wear is your favorite outfit! Wearing clothes that you feel comfortable and confident in is key. Or, you could ask your fiancé what their favorite outfit is and base your outfit on that, if you need a starting point!
Think about it like you’re getting ready to go out on a date together. What would you normally wear while going out to dinner?
If you'd like to get a variety of shots with one outfit, something I've found is helpful is if you have a couple layers to your outfit- for example a jean jacket that you wear for some shots over a dress that can be taken off for a more formal look, a sweater that can be removed, etc.
An element of movement in an outfit can be a nice touch. For example a flowy top/or skirt that can move in the wind, just to add a little dimension. If dresses and skirts aren’t your thing, don’t feel pressured to wear them! A blouse + pants, or a good jumpsuit romper are just as good.
I have a Pinterest board that you can check out if you need any outfit inspiration! Please feel free to reach out if you want to bounce ideas off of me. I'd be happy to look at any outfit options you have and give feedback if needed. https://www.pinterest.com/sarah_mattozzi/engagement-session-outfits/
What not to wear
It’s totally okay to mix patterns and not wear matching colors! The only thing I recommend avoiding is wearing neon colors in large amounts. Neon colors tend to reflect off the other persons face and cause strange skin tones (such as neon yellow, neon fuchsia, etc.) Otherwise, feel free to get creative and don’t think too much about any rules!
What to bring
YES, please bring your dog!
All you need to bring is yourself, and I recommend bringing along a bottle of water so you can stay hydrated!
However, if you’d like to bring along any additional things to make your engagement session more special, please feel free! It’s not necessary, but it can add an element of your personality.
Here are some ideas: champagne, your favorite team jerseys, a small bouquet, your dog, your bikes, ice cream, donuts, biodegradable confetti, etc. If you bring your dog pal, consider bringing along a trusted friend to help handle them if you want any photos alone.
PBR and donuts, their other loves!
A bouquet added a beautiful, spring touch to this couple’s April engagement session.
We visited their favorite neighborhood ice cream spot!
Popcorn made this couple’s movie theater session complete!
Champagne + a sunset picnic for their surprise proposal and engagement!
After the session
After The Session: After your session, your photos will take about 2-3 weeks to arrive in your personalized online gallery. I take my time in the editing process so that every photo you get will be carefully edited. You can download the photos directly to order prints wherever you’d like, and have the option to order prints through that gallery, too! Once you have your photos, feel free to share on social media. I always appreciate if you can tag my business in the photo or caption whenever possible- I love seeing the photos get shared!
That should cover it! Of course, If you have any more questions please don’t hesitate to ask!
