Woodland Elopement in Charlottesville, VA | Mary + Ellie

Adventurous woodland elopement in Charlottesville, VA with only the couple and their dachshund dogs. Embroidered wedding dress, wildflower inspired bouquet, and handwritten vows. Sarah Mattozzi Photography.

When the inquiry from Mary appeared in my inbox with the title: “Golden hour elopement by the river”, I was instantly excited and on board. Mary is the sister of a past groom, Rue, and officiated his and Meg’s wedding. Getting invited to be a part of their elopement by documenting it was an experience that I’ll cherish.

One of my favorite moments was the exchanging of vows- the way the words carried through the stillness and in the rustling leaves was absolutely beautiful. It really felt like we were enveloped in another world, with all the golden rays coming across the trees and the silence except for quiet nature sounds. To add to the magic, I loved the appearances from all kinds of different animals during the elopement- the sweet dogs, the woodpecker family, and the deer that we saw on the way back.

Their elopement photos were featured over on H&H Weddings, where you can read more of Mary’s words about their day.
